Got a "Service 4 WD" message today.....

Does anybody know what this means other than the obvious? Truck only has 17,000 miles on it and the message went away after a few min.

Thanks,

Paul

Have you put a tune in it or switched the tune?

This happens sometimes while accessing the ECM

Truck is completely stock.........

I have switched to 4 wheel drive before and have never seen this message.

It went away, but I think I will have to take it in on Monday and have it checked under warranty..........

could be several things, may need updated software. a poor ground down at the frame rail.

Dave (blksmok) also had this problem about 2 weeks ago. He said that it went away. Maybe bad grounds like red said.

True. Mine coincided with a leak in my cab lights. I think something got wet and affected mine. (electrical)

....ahh just use 4 wheel drive more often J/K X3 on the bad ground connection. I would suggest possibly un-plugging the switch and spraying some di-electric cleaner on the pins then using electrical contact grease before re-connecting the plug. I had the same message on my DIC and this was my fix. No more messages to date.

If it happens again and your close to a dealer do not shut the truck off and get them to check it then, Most of the time its the switch going bad.

Had this happen to me last winter. Pulled into the drive and parked the truck in 4wd. Pushed the 2wd button and shut her down. The next morning I fired her up the message came up. Went to 4wd and then back to 2wd shut it down and restarted and all was good. Think that the case never really went to 2wd the night before due to the gears being under tension. Been over a year and haven't had another issue. I try not to switch between the modes when in park.

Took the truck into the dealership since it is still under warranty and they replaced a part..believe to be the actuator. The cost is $500 for the part plus labor...no cost to me since it's under warranty........):h

I extended my warranty out for another 4 years just before the truck was one year old. It cost $1,200 for an additional 4 yrs of warranty zero deductible thru GMPP Major Guard......... I think it's just cheap insurance. So...now I have the warranty good till 2014..........:thumb:

Thanks to all for your good info........
