I read a very good question on another forum the other day, and have been very curious as to an answer for it.

Has anyone with a diamond eye downpipe done much heavy towing for more than 4 hours straight? With an LBZ? LLY? LB7? I have this downpipe, but I do ALOT of pulling my 5th wheel around.. and have heard of people smelling some "burning" smells from the heat wrap, and holding high EGT's (from towing 20k+) for any long range lenght of time.

Anyone tow much with theirs?

I tow to and from the dunes, about 4 hours each way, 4 sets of hills and headwinds with constant 1000-1100* egt's
the only time i smelt the burning was the first drive on it, after that i didnt.
Combined with my trailer im just shy of 25k.

You wouldnt end up with a fire ball to speak of because the heat wraps made on the aftermarket can withstand upwards of 2000* if i am correct, it could be a little shy of that but as Brian stated the only time you will smell a burning is when it is breaking in for the first or first few times.
