Hey everyone,

I have just got a oil temp gauge for my truck. I was wondering if anyone knows of a good location in the block to put the sender unit.

I have been talking with mike from the board and he said in the sump. I am just concerned with taking it out from flying sticks and rocks. I plan to use it a fair bit of 4x4.

I was just under the truck and notices that, in front of the oil sender unit on the drivers side (US drives side). There are 2 bungs into oil galleries i assume. Would this be a suitable location for the oil temp sender.

Cheers Heath

I have mine installed in the oil filter housing. There is a plug sort of on the top side of it. Access it through the fender well. It has a 10mm Allen head. It's kinda tough to get a good pic, but once your head is in there you will see it. This port will give you HOT oil temps, before it goes on to the filter and OE cooler.

I linked the the thread on DD to some stuff on DP.

This (http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=80496&highlight=OIl+temp) thread has some good stuff, a lot of whining by TxC, but good stuff.

FWIW, I'm using the plug that is noted and pic'd in the third post. It is also the one that TxC is lableing "before bypass" in the forth post. Same plug, just one pic is from below and the other is with the housing upside down.. :)

That is also where I have mine installed...
But I wish I had the money back to spend on something else :( After taking care of the water temperature the oil temp was a total non issue...
