I'll be helping Kevinl install is 40/94 sometime next week, so i wanted to start a list on what everyone used to install their turbos. I havent installed a turbo yet, but this is what I was thinking;

PB Blaster
shop towels
12mm 12 point socket, both short and long
3/8" rachet
45* swivel
3/8" open end wrench for v clamps

Band aids and tape. That band aid for your bloody knuckles and that tape to cover your mouth so as kids can't hear cursing. ):h

I am thinking v band clamps need a 7/16" / 11mm

And, removing those 12mm 12 point bolts may require a long 3/8" ratchet at best.

After a few stock charger removals I have learned to have selective hearing during a charger change out discussion. -:t

Cheater bar for the up pipe bolts. GM had god installing those bolts for them.

Good luck, be careful with the top oil gasket, get it on correct, lol.....

Swivel head ratchet wrenches and a swivel head (bent handle) ratchet. After you take the down pipe off remove both upper up-pipes (six bolts)from the passenger side wheel well. You can get to both from that side real easy. Other than that its basic tools. Soak the bolts the night before. Run a tap through the holes on the pedistal and open them up just a hair. It will help when you go to pt the gaskets back it and bolt them up.:thumb:

I've told Kevin, but I'll post it here for everyone else, having new 12mm 12pt sockets is a must IMO. I started with decent Craftsman ones but they had been around a bit and were just helping me round off the heads.. Got new ones, Kobalt IIRC, and it was night and day the difference the "bite" that the new ones had over the older.

Let me know when you guys are gonna tackle it. If I'm free I'd gladly lend some of my veteran experience..):h

I'll can drag some of my tools along too.

The top oil gaskets will be in place, I will send 2 extra gaskets with the turbo,and I will run a cleaner tap thru the the holes and post the link when I find it of the install when we did it.Should be sending it out in a few days.I'm waiting on 1 last part from fedex so I should have my truck in parts tommorrow night.

Fingers found that a torque multiplier helped taking the bolts off. He has a link to it here;

I will add to this. Do to God tightening the up-pipe and down pipe bolts, I used the jack that came with the truck and a 12mm 12pt combo wrench to get the better of the down pipe bolts. Small enough to fit in the tight space. I also have a picture of the el cheapo torque multiplier that Rick was talking about. Got the idea from fingers on that one. And yes it helped get the up-pipe bolts given the working space. And yes, chase the bolts with taps and dies to clean them up. Helps with the reinstall.

Build you one of these, it will make the down pipe and up pipe take off much easier.

we tried making one of those with a wrench and it broke maybe there would be better luck with a ratchet.

I am liking the jack myself):h

Whatever is fine I will figure it out they will probably leave a notice and I can just sign and tell them to leave it
