Well after all the hurdles lately the new motor finally fired-up this afternoon. It wasn't without a few "Maalox Moments" but the major teething problems have been cleared (I hope).

Need some tuning advice. Mahle 15:1 pistons + GM decked/overbore head gasket + TTS Extreme cam with a significant amount of duration + 60% over nozzles = healthy amount of white smoke at idle.

What would be the next step in tuning through this - more timing at idle & down low?

On a side note - this motor wraps up tight! Crazy throttle response once you are above 1000rpm.

Congrats on "debugging" it and getting it going!! :thumb:

Congrats, Mine smokes with the first start up then cleans up after driving, I think it has alot to do with the injectors and tuning .

Are these the same injectors you had in your other motor?

You should be able to tune it out of it. I spent a bunch of time trying to get mine right.

sounds like a cool ride, got any pics?

Yes they are the same injectors. Rings need more heat & time to seat. Then I think tuning out the remaining smoke should be straightforward (just need Nick to get some free time..).

Congrats John!:thumb: Good luck hitting your marks.

Rings are seating up and the white smoke is clearing up with the help from Nick. I absolutely love the way this motor sounds & runs.

Rick, the addition of the tubular pedistal to your headers & up-pipes has improved part throttle even more. I see more part throttle boost in places that did not exist with the stock motor. That helps make the Co-Pilot happier and the turbo clears up smoke real well and egts have dropped on all of my tunes. Can't wait to stretch her legs at the track soon.

I am thinking that my coolant leak is coming from the block off plate. It is coming from the passengers rear side of the block. It does not leak at all during idle or driving?? I'll load it back on the dyno and lay into - that is when it leaked the first time. Once that I know for sure if the rear plate is cracked or not, the NX kit is getting plumbed and I am going for a dyno number.

What block off plate?

I am thinking there is a block off plate on the rear cover?? I had read some posts that suggested it was a common place for coolant leaks in the area that I found mine.

KC

I probably won't be at the OKC dyno. If all goes as planned I should be swapping trans/converter. Truck runs really strong with real timing in it now.

What are you doing w/Trans & converter, John?

This one Rick,It sometimes leaks best to add some sealer to it.

That is the one I am thinking is the culprit. Steve said to check and see if a trans bolt was making contact with it and sure enough it had.

Yep, using a transmission mounting bolt that's just a little too long and it goes through the adapter and right into the coolant block off plate. It took me more than a little while to figure that one out the first time it happened.

Good deal. I hope that fixes it.:)
