i have no clue how these are going to work, but think they will work great, they were bought to lower underhood temps. got them on last night and will update this thread as i test . these were made by just a pic and some over the phone measurements , so the fit is not 100% perfect but pretty dang good for him not having the parts or truck in his hands . for those that dont know i am running Ricks race headers and up pipes .
truck should be running by tomarrow , its tore down for a few other upgrades

Be careful with heat blankets like you have pictured. They tend to soak up moisture as they cool down and that can cause the headers to rot out. Make sure and have a good coating on them first then check them once in awhile by pulling the blanket back off. The problem is not an overnight issue but over time issue. Most header manufactures have all excluded coverage for headers that are wrapped and this is the reason.

thanks for the heads up , does this include S/S headers like ricks . they will get HPC coated this winter hoprefully :)

You'll be alright with ss. Moisture is no issue with this metal. Depending on the type of stainless, heat may be. Some stainless can handle higher temps than other stainless grades. Rick will chime in if an issue may occur.
Looks nice by the way, you will be happy with the cooler under hood temps.

It all depends as the 400 series of SS rust but it handles the heat better. Take a magnet out and try to stick it to the header. If it sticks it's most likely 400 series material.

How are the blankets held on to the header?
Steve, I'm not aware of the 400 series, I better read up for sure. all we use is 321 w/316 filler and I know Rick uses the 300 series as far as I know.
after some reading.
The little I read about 400 series " reads " no first hand experience other than saying oh Ya. 400 will create a patina and will take a long time to rust through even under high heat conditions. So, I read it as 400 is still way better than mild steel alone.
thanks

400 series material is better at the heat handling but it will rust, 409 and 428 are the common ones used in tubing. Not near as much rust as mild steel does but, yes, it still rust. It's also magnetic so that's a quick test for it. 300 series has a high NI content but this also makes it brittle. I was told that the 400 series was developed for the automotive industry to combat the rust of mild steel as that would ruin the catalytic converters.

How are the blankets held on to the header?
metal zip ties , it only takes a few in the right places to hold them on there .
so far they are working very well , under hood temps are at a minimum back to what they were before if not better slightly , and spooling seems to be faster , its quite noticable with the big charger , its putting out more boost at part throttle than before .

update ................ i was on the dyno last night and after doing 4 consectutive hard pulls the engine bay was luke warm :thumb: i am taking a laser temp reader with me on my road trip to billings and i am going to take some measurements along the way , outside of blankets , vavle covers, outside of hood , ect . so far the engine bay seems cooler than before the headers even went on , i am very pleased with the results for what it cost .
