anyone install their own mudflaps and if so which one's did you use? I'm getting tired of throwing mud and rocks all over my fenders and steps. I was just wondering who made the best and who had the best price. thanks

I used Husky Mud Guards. I've been very happy with them. They are molded hard plastic and look real nice.

Check my garage. I made my own flaps from one large flap for a big rig. $18 and they screw into my oem flares.

If any of you guys are playing with a dually be careful not to hang anything too heavy or rigid on there. If you put on a lot of miles they will crack the plastic bedside. Even the Husky's do it.:(

what would you suggest instead or how would you keep that from happening?

I put the Chevy Mudflaps on. Wished they were a little bigger because I still get the flying rocks out of my tires. Rocker panel has taken a pretty good beating. Hope its not as bad after I wear down the factory tires some.

I like the husky's best. I would build a little metal strip to place on the back side of the fendor on the dually's for more support. The 2500's hold up good already.

on the inside or out?

On the inside of the fenderwell and sandwich the fenderwell between the flap and the support strip you made.

thats what i was figuring on, but do you have to take the whole fender off or just loosen a couple of key bolts to get to it?

IIRC, it's totally exposed under there. This is what happens without the supports. It cracked straight up from the top bolt hole and split. :( That is the one that needs the support.

I just put on the OEM Chevy ones... Only bitch I have is the front bottom body bolt. I have nerf bars and that made it a pain to put back in. Other then that they are doing a great job.

You must have bought the modded ones. Those do rub on the paint I found that out after 3 years of them being on. I put the stock flat guards on now.:thumb:

On my old dually, I made brackets out of angle of the frame adn run class 8 flaps after a little trimming.

Have you ever tried DuraFlap??
I like 'em and they seem to hold up well too........

In my experience with molded OEM type (and husky) flaps, they are really only good for two things. 1) trap grit between the body and the flap. 2) Make you think you have protection for the body.
Oh...and I forgot 3) reduce the amount of money you have for no reason and make me wish I'd bought something different.
Duraflaps are superior and are a "normal" type flap instead of a molded design. They use OEM holes and are drill-less. Custom sizes are available and so are trim plates. And the folks there are nice...and will actually talk to you if you call.
I made my own using plastic semi flaps. Mine are 12" x 24" long and really give me total protection and still look good. I used clear lexan to make the mock ups and to mark holes...then transfered the pattern to the actual material I used.
