have any of yall had the problem where your driver side power extend/retract mirror quit workin and was makin a god awfull sound? thats what i have goin on with mine, im plannin on takin the mirror off and havin a gander at whats goin on behind there to see if it is either off the track or somethin broke. anybody else had this problem?
on edit: while i was messin with it i figure id put some smoked marker lights on the front side as running lights. what do yall think about that? i think it would look pretty good and give somethin for the DIY section.

Have you tried to pull it out manually? I think it is the motor

na i havent messed with it yet i been too lazy:lol:. but i think ill piddle with it sometme this week. when i try to retract them or extend the pass. works fine but the driver makes this noise that makes me almost want to stop when i hear it (probly should) but i havent done it but twice. just trying to figure out if its off. it trys to do something cause i see it but then the rubbing/grinding noise that plastic makes comes out and you can see the mirror jump and it starts over again.

Mine does the same thing...not the motor rather the "clutch mechanism and/or the slide mechanism." You can lubricate the sliding mechanism inside the mirror housing without removing the mirror lens. Tilt your mirror lens in such a manner to full left or full right depending on which mirror you are fixing and look between the back of the lens and the outside mirror housing. Spray a liberal amount of dry silicone lubricant on the plastic track using the red plastic tube that usually comes with the aerosol can. Manually slide the mirror in and out until you can get the entire track lubed. Don't be suprised, but the mirrors are kinda tough to slide manually. Once both mirrors are lubed, manually push both mirrors completely back in to the full non-extended position. Cycle the mirrors now using the button. I did this and they worked for a while. Poorly designed in my opinion. Dust and dirt clog up the track as does friction material within the slide itself. After a few months, I ended up just manually pulling out the mirrors:mad::mad: I am still trying o figure out a more permanent fix

Are the mirrors still "manually" operated or do they work like they should ?

I ended up buying two OEM mirrors from a person as mine were replaced 2 times and warranty was up !

On my '05 with these mirrors, I switched to the '06/'07 style tow mirrors. They are better mirrors IMO and they are manual slide, so nothing to go wrong.

yeah i like those mirrors but i like the power part of it, im lazy:D but personally yes i would love to have the spotter mirrors on the bottom and have a taller one on the top instead of the wide ones i have now.

The best money I have ever spent was on a good set of mirrors for my 05... For years I have used all the different types ford makes (they only use ford cabs for our ambulances -:t ) all the factory chevy mirrors, clip ons and extenders. I have never had a set as good as the TTT's !
Easy to adjust, great fields of view and no wind noise or shaking at speed.. Simply a great product.

The only thing that is not power, on mine, is the in and out.. They are heated with turn signal, marker lights and power adjust on the main mirror.. I miss the power in and out about once a year :)

thats what i dont want to lose the in and out. plus i like the turn signal in the mirror itself

do you think pulling the glass off and taking some teflon based grease over the entire track and work it back and forth like you said would be a more "longterm" fix to this instead of spraying it with silicone spray? plus try and attach something to it like a guide so it wont come off track?

I was afraid of breaking the glass. The dry silicon grease doesn't tend to attract as much debris as a "grease" would. If you can safely remove the glass, I say go for it. You are more brave than I.

OK updates here. ITS FIXED! :D i have solved my problems for now i spose anyway. i will get some pictures and post a write up in the diy. although it is redneck as hell it worked. i used a ping pong ball cut in half to fix the power slide option of the mirror and i used teflon tape to fix the shaking of the mirror glass itself. before it shook so bad that i couldnt barely see out of it and now not a thing. madmaxdmax to take the glass off isnt hard at all, if you tilt the mirror up fully you can look underneath and there will be a notch in the plastic i used a small flat head screwdriver to reach it. tilt the mirror up and there will be a tab if you look that needs to be pushed back then you just tilt the mirror back down and slide it up and out.

Not understanding the correlation between "redneck" and ping pong balls...but def. sounds interesting and sooooo funny. YA GOTTA EXPLAIN THAT WITH PICS ! I'm in San Antonio at the moment and will be for the next week, but when I get back in town I will have to use your method and remove the lense.

I've been considering the 06 upgrade. Mine work fine so I'll wait until they don't. My FIL only has 25K on his truck and his pass one only works when it wants to.

when i half a$$ed fixed mine i noticed the reason it wasent moving is because the motor housing had split on mine causeing it to jump track (i think) and not push it. it could be knocking it back and pulling the gear shaft out of the motor itself. i fixed it with half a ping pong ball put it is a temp fix and doesnt work all the time but at least it works.):h

Man I just saw this post how old is it? Any how for may late reply...as an update my mirrors still need the "human touch" in order to retract and extent. Since I don't use them often anyway, not a big deal for me. I could have something else more important break and leave me stranded.):h

Click the link i posted and its a FREE fix for the mirrors, all you do is pull off the mirror as you need to get behind it and then you dont even have to pull off the mounting plate as he writes up cause i didnt have to.
Once you have the mirror off use a torx bit screw driver to take off the motor cover and then tighten down the bolt that has the tension spring on the motor and your gold.
He says to tighten down 1 and a quarter turns but i went till it was tight(not superman tight but youll know) and it seemed to be about 1 and a quarter turns anyway.
Again this worked like a charm and is FREE ):h
