ok. can someone enlighten me as to what coudl possibly go wrong by using either a higher bio mixture or pure B100 in an LBZ? if I recall the service manual says no more than B5 or the warranty wont be honored. not that they'd honor a warranty for me anymore as it is lol

I think the problem is, there is no real standard for bio fuels yet. So I think they are hedging their bets by saying only B5 or less (is it still b5?)
With that said, I'll be running B100 in my LBZ very shortly. I have a friend that runs B99 he buys from a station in his LBZ without issue and another friend who has been running B100 he makes himself in his LLY without issue for over a year and a half.

I've been running b11 in my truck for a while now. I would run a higher percentage but that's the most the station will do. It's the lowest percentage the can do to take advantage of the tax credit. I might try some homebrew this summer.

I would think that a higher percentage "detergent" fuel would lead to faster breakdown of internal seals, unless they are bio-proof rather then bio-resistant ?

gm says b5 to cover their (donkey butt) because just like dave said there is no real biodiesel standard. b99 here an donly problem was the fuel filter clogging.

But the fuel filter is clogging because the bio cleans out all the gunk left in the system from #2 pump diesel... Really the pump diesel is what clogs the filter... the bio cleans the system out.

Nice "detergent" work it does for sure. Not a bad idea to run a tank of bio now and them to keep the gunk from forming as fast in the tank. It's kinda like diesel colonics

thanks for the input. I'll have to take this into consideration.

We have had some reps from GM and Ford show us results from people running higher than B5. Everyone is correct about cleaning out a fuel system. The bad part is that some of the fuel lines, seals, tanks, and injection parts are said to have problems. We have not had any customers running anything higher than B5, so I can not say what it does to the tank lining, but I do know that there have been some court battles that Ford won against customers concerning the problem.
Just my 2 cents...:thumb:

What were the "results"? My friend has been running B100 of his own making for over a year and a half in his '05 LLY C4500... Hasn't had a problem yet, but if you've seen something, I'd love to hear more.

Me too. I am staring to not believe the "big three". Kinda thinking they are in bed with the oil companies a little too much.

Heck no we haven't seen any problems. Just what the oil companies and their lovers (truck makers) have been saying. We haven't taken a fuel tank down yet to see if there is any damage. I don't see any problem with it minus the extra loss of power. Heck if the fuel is cleaner, isn't that what the world is looking for?
