ok guys so i have the 06 lly with the 6 speed alli everything is pretty much the same as the lbz right?? so why is it that i am only pushing 310hp instead of 360hp like the lbz if i have all the same stuff ecm, tranny, etc...
John Wayne
09-22-2009, 09:23 PM
yes the same except different tune from factory. Im not sure as to why though
Royce
09-22-2009, 10:04 PM
so if i got an lbz factory tune would i run the 360hp?

The LBZ tune i dont believe will work with your MAF but someone might know better than i do.
If you absolutely want that extra few Hp just get a milage tuner or something used for a cheap price.

well i got the ppe on it so i should be pretty close to that i think but i was just wondering what the difference was just wanted to pick your guys brains a lil ha ha

As mentioned before it is in the tuning although the LBZ CP3 flows better than the LLY it is still in the tuning.

You can have your 06 LLY ECM reflashed to the LBZ tune at the dealership to about IIRC $100. It will give you an extra 50 hp, then add that on top of the PPE of whatever level you are running so you still get an extra 50 hp. The 06 LLY and the LBZ is exactly the same thing, same ECM but a detuned version.

Dont they use a diff. MAF or is it my version that uses the diff. MAF?

dang thats awesome might have to talk to the dealership then after i put my transgo jr in tho ha ha

The only difference between '06 LLY and LBZ is the factory tune (and possibly the computer operating system program. Everything else is the same! There have been debates on some other forums that the quoted power difference isn't there in reality. I know my 06 LLY will stay right with a similar LBZ.

Unless someone has already done this, and can post up the results, I'll compare a stock LBZ tune with a stock '06 LLY tune and report the differences.

Wow, there were quite a bit of differences, although none of them "major". Here is a list.

I took a 3624_06_LLY and captured the deltas to my 6128_07_LBZ.
I'll put the new 3624 "LBZ" and the stock 3624_06_LLY files in the tune library for anyone that wants to check them out and diff them.
One interesting thing I noted was that the 3624_06_LLY tune has no fuel system data. (tank size etc)

dang thats crazy so i cant get the lbz tune and run it on my lly?? sorry got kinda confused ha ha

Yes you can in theory. I haven't tested it so I hate to say for sure. I took a stock '06 LLY and made all the changes to make it a LBZ tune with a '06 LLY OS. In theory, you should be able to load this on your truck and get the HP increase.
Although if I were you, I'd just have a full reflash done with a LBZ tune/OS.

are the intake manifolds and y-bridge the same?
if so it would save me alot of work....

Yes everything mechanical is the same. The hard wires are the same. The only difference is the ECM tuning. The TCM tune is the same too IIRC.
I think GM underrated the power because they wanted to test out the engines for awhile before they bumped up the power

If you have a 2006 LLY, Buy things that are for the LBZ such as programmers, the earlier (2004.5-2005) LLY has more in common with the LB7 than it does with your truck

I'm courious why you would even mess with a factory reflash? Just go ahead and use a programmer or EFI live like you would an LBZ? Or am I missing something?

It will give you an extra 50 hp, then add that on top of the PPE of whatever level you are running so you still get an extra 50 hp.
Not true. PPE will change most of the same tables you just modified. PPE should be the same on an 06 LLY and 06 LBZ.
Royce
02-01-2010, 11:21 PM
yeah the ppe would be changin the same tables but you will still be gettin a lil less than an lbz because of the stock tuning
