Ok as some of the folks here know my trans is stock, There for a while i figured it was shot cause it was not shifting right and seemed to flare. After driving her for over a year on the same trans and it holding up to a decent tow tune from Dave with numerous 900+ mile trips and towing with no issues i think its safe to say i was being paranoid.

Here lately i have been driving her a little harder just to see what happens and i havnt been easy on her to say the least(boosted street launches in 2 wheel spinning the tires, jacking with ricers and other trucks, and just aggressive driving) and not a single problem but what i did find is wierd. The trans now shifts smooth and like it should with no flare and feels strong as hell. I think i want to chalk my problems i was having up to the fact i was babying the truck everywhere i went trying not to get over 2k one for thinking the trans was on the way out and trying to save what was left and to save fuel.

Now that i have been ruff on her she feels brand new with no slippage i can tell. My only thing is the truck has 140k+ on the odo. and i am feeling just the slightest shudder(so small that its hard to notice all the time, if you didnt know what to feel for you wouldnt feel it) when i accelerate from a stop.

With it having so many miles i was wondering if this was being caused by the carrier bearing, how many miles are they good for?

Also the last question is if you feel a trans shuddering what normally could you attribute it to, the clutch packs or the converter?

Any thoughts at all?

James,

Before i had my trans built, the clutches got very abused. Limped over 20 times, was ran on PPE lvl 10...needless to say the clutches were burned up.

But up until i got it built, it never once limped from normal street driving. Nor did it ever shift oddly under normal driving conditions.

Hope this puts your transmission's condition in prespective relative to what it could be.

I would not worry if i were you.

In an auto transmission what is the first thing to stat causing slipping issues though?

Id imagine the clutch packs but could the converter be the first thing to go?

Also i forgot to mention that i bought the truck used and when i have Dave originally tune it the rail pressure turned all the way up i would believe that to be a sign of a large tune right? Also i am not sure how long the guy before us owned the truck before he traded it in and how long it was abused.

I think I understand what you mean by the shudder. I feel it in 1st gear in mine. the harder i accelerate, the worse it is. It is only in first gear though. Once it shifts out, it goes away and i can go through the next 5 gears no problem. I just wondered if you found anything else out about this.

Sorry i let my in-laws borrow the truck cause i was sposed to be deploying an dended up getting taken off the package cause they cut back the manning.

They have the truck still but when i was driving it before i let em take it i figured i have it narrowed down to the carrier bearing was on its way out and is shot to hell, you could grab the dirveshaft and move it left and right and up and down with no big effort.

The rubber isolator around it to keep it from doing that was trashed and ripped and was letting it move, ive also chalked up the clunking from a standstill take off and getting in and out of the throttle at slow speeds to it moving as well.

Id check that first as i was only feeling it in first as well after that it was gravy.

I finally got under my truck and checked it out. the drive shaft is loose at the trans, the carrier bearing, and the u joints just behind it. guess i have a bit of work to do. oh yeah, there is some trans fluid on the drive shaft too. how difficult is it to get the shaft seal in and out?
