Programmers like PPE, bullydog, diablo, hypertech...

What have you used and what did you think?

My first handheld was the Diablosport Predator. I was pleased with the overall performance, and the ease and speed of changing tunes with it. It was with the Predator that I got the best fuel economy, sometimes exceeding 22 mpg on long highway trips at 65-70 mph. That was on the 85 hp setting. I did find the throttle to be a bit too sensitive, though, and the shifting just "ok".

I now run the PPE Hot +2 ET. It is a very versatile and powerful tuner. It will throw a lot of smoke on the higher settings. I only have the Predator to compare it to, but the PPE shifts much smoother, and has more mid to upper RPM grunt. The Predator seemed to have more low end response, and spooled up a hair faster. Once the PPE takes off, it is stupid fast. It will burn the tires at will, and will easily get away from you if you are not paying attention. I am running the PPE on the 350 setting right now, and can light the tires up at 1/2 throttle from 25 mph. I do have a lift pump, exhaust, intake, built tranny, etc.

I also really like the tranny reset feature of the PPE.

I also really like the tranny reset feature of the PPE.

You can reset the taps of the allison and put it into a "fast learn" mode.

The allison is a "learning" transmission. It adjusts itself to your style of driving (and power level if you change that) as you drive. PPE and EFILive have the ability to reset the trans memory, if you will, and then it goes into a fast learn mode.

I have a PPE Standard showing up in a few minutes. I'll give you my $,02 in a couple days.

I have played quite a bit with the PPE and must say for a hand held I am very impressed.

The diablo is decent, but I feel the buly dog puts down a little more power. The bullydog also throughs the trans into limp pretty easy

My choice would be the PPE Hot 2 ET

With the stock tranny I have been pleased with the Predator. I have had it up to the 85hp setting but run right now at 40hp. The 40 makes up for Biodiesel power loss and just gives that extra little kick. Not to mention balance rates, speedo fix and all the other great info!!

I've had my PPE Standard for a little over a week now. I have it set on L2 and am very happy with it. If I ever get rid of this it'll be for EFI.

Well it's been a few weeks now and I must say I'm very happy with the PPE Standard. I've been running it on L2 since I got it. I've been tempted to try L3 but with the luck I'm having this year I don't dare. Maybe 1/01/09 will be a good time to try it. ;)

I like how fast it loads too. I was a little worried that I'd be sitting there for a half hour or more waiting but it went real fast.

Started with Hypertech 3 which felt great (like everybody else, first tuner feels over the moon) The tq was really good and useable. Then when I was used to it I got Banks 6 Gun with PDA. It was good because of the change on the fly but the power didnt seem much more than the Hypertech. Also good to be able to view different parameters at the push of the button. Then I got PPE Hot +2 - I currently run it in my 05 on No 4, anything over that and its not much faster and smokes like a train and Im a no smoking man. I keep the PPE Handheld in my 04 that I have EFI Live with DSP5 so that when I get codes I plug it in as Im driving and clear any codes if they come up. But EFI all the way when it comes to Custom.
