Seats only move 1/2" at a time

As the title says - its an 04 GMC LT with all the bells & whistles. It just started this recently, and does it in both directions(forward & back). No other problems such as up, down or seat back except the memory functions moves the seat forward a small amount when the key is inserted. Search reveals a reflash maybe needed, anyway that it can be done outside of taking it to a dealer?

If you have EFI Live then I think you could jsut load a newer OS... Other wise, a stealer ship visit may be needed

Have you checked to make sure nothing is in the track? Also, is the motor completely stopping then starting again? Possibly a loose wire? If it has the seat recall, it could be a feedback sensor?

I checked the tracks and everything seems okay, I can move it all the way forward & all the way back, but it's just about a half inch at a time. When I insert the key with the seat back tilted and the seat bottom raised or lowered it will come back to the pre-set but will only move the seat forward the 1/2 inch or so. I have had problems in the past with the memory function, but a re-set always fixed it before.

My brother had the same problem on his gas truck. Eventually he had to change the unit under the seat .It just wouldn't retain the programming.

I have a symilar seat /memory issue. Mine is a barely driven 2005. have had it from original owner for almost a year now ..the door panel has #1 and #2 settings ..that are supposed to link to Key #1 and Key #2, so that you insert the key and the seat position momory moves to that setting when you insert the key? is seems this has never worked. bnot that big a deal till the seat baes up abd down button now does not work and the damn seat is fixed at some freggin odd psotion , yet when I push the #1 button ...all the settings move into position except the seat based incline.....really does piss Me off. I even try a hand setting and the button worked only part way and is now dead ,but for just the one seat base incline setting..any ideas.....

Just an update, got to looking closer at this problem and checked the wires on the module at the front underside of the seat and the black wire that goes into it was loose. Apparently, I kicked or hit the module with a vacuum and broke the plug that contains 3 wires. I tried to get the plug out but could not figure out how it comes out and did not want to break it further until I find out if it can be replaced. Stuck the wire back in and held it down with electrical tape; seat now works.
