Do you guys keep the intake on when you dyno your trucks. I recently installed a BD turbo kit(S300) and am curious, should I remove the intake completely??

I saw plenty of guys doing this in Danville, IN a few months back but wonder if it is really worth it.

Were they big turbo trucks? Maybe to help spool up.
Back in the day when I had a cummins, you would lose power without a filter. Unless your intake sytem cant handle the airflow you need.

I opened mine up when I was having airflow problems at a dyno run last month. I gained 39 hp by opening up the airbox (with a stock turbo).

Wow. That is a big gain. Was your filter clean?

The filter was clean. We figured that the tune and lift pump were giving it plenty of fuel, it just needed more air. It smoked like a freakin' freight train, though.

No actually the truck I remember seeing was a dually with a BD turbo setup same as mine. Maybe it is not worth it, maybe it is. I was planning on doing it just for simple cause...pry couldn't hurt right?

If your shooting for max output and you can give it the fuel, I can't see why it would be bad... (other than the unfiltered air) ):h

I would just take the filter off. Be sure to check for anything loose that could get sucked into the intake. There is a tremendous amount of suction.

Give it a shot. How many runs do you get? Try it both ways.

I get 3 runs for 60 bucks. I wonder if I ask would they let me try it. I will ask that is for sure.

Did you ever test an aftermarket intake system or did you always run the stock one?

I now have an S&B, and can tell a marked "seat of the pants" difference, and there is less smoke. I have not yet dynoed it with the new intake.

I like S&B. I tested for them a few years ago.

I have only used a OEM setup....guess at this point I don't need one, or do I?

Sorry guys, I am just soo stoked that my truck did so well in MO this weekend. I was shooting for 500, wished for 500 and ended up over 600 by a few. I am sure you all can share the excitement with me.

Why would they care? Too much smoke ?

WE LOVE SMOKE!!!!!

There is never too much smoke. Heck we did the ventilation on the building so everyone could watch the truck and see what happens. For the best seat in the house just step outside and watch 24 inches of solid black smoke roll out the building.

We had to call the fire dept yesterday before we ran a truck so they knew that the building wasn't on fire. Some passerbys have called them on us before...):h

Steve I was just worried about time restraints...didn't know if they would allow me to remove the intake halfway through you know.

Tim took the time to hook his EFI up to my truck to play around with the bi-directional tools for gear selecting so it seems time wasn't a issue. Thanks alot guys.

If someone takes the time to stop by and see us then we will take the time to make sure they get what ever they need and want. Time would not have been an issue at all. We have spent many nights at work helping guys out from out of town.

I hope that no one ever hesitates to ask.

The fire dept does. The EPA has only been called once by the neighbors...

Here is a teaser.
