Just bought a 3 inch intake horn. One like whats sold on at profabperformance.com. Was wondering if anyone has changed this out? And if so, how hard is it to do? I looked at it yesterday, and thought it was gonna suck to change. I also was wondering if anyone has changed their LB-7 downpipe? I've been looking at the 3inch fully round down pipe offered for them. Wondering how much of a job that is as well? Thanks guys!!!

Got the new intake turbo tube on. Was a lil difficult. Just need to tighten down the bolts now. Ran out of daylight and patience. Allen wrenches arent long enough either.

Glad to see you got it almost done. Where did you get it?

I can try to get pics after its done. May be a few days. I picked it up off of ebay. Was screwin around on the undergrounddiesel site and found an ebay link. Found it on there. I've been wanting to add more air to my truck for awhile. I've seen everyone else able to buy for their dodge or ford, and i wanted one too. Should have a story up later and the details of the install after i get it back together.

Those LB7 inlet pipes are a PITA. Sorry Rick, but they look deceptively simple...

Was worth an honest 15rwhp (525-540 back to back) on a max effort stock turbo truck with modded PPE boost valve (33psi).

Thats impressive. Who would of thought that, that much more airflow would make that much of a difference. Im still waitin to finish my install. Need longer allen wrenches.

I finally got it done. Just got to go back over it and make sure all bolts are tight. Took a few days, but with my work schedule, it's done. I'll be sure to post in the DIY section how I went about doin it for the next guy.

When I installed mine I found a telescopic magnet to be very valuable. It's good to see those dyno numbers from it.

haha likewise. I needed one too after I unbent a clothes hanger to pull a wrench out of the valley. How much trouble did you have installin yours?

You guys got any ideas that I can use to make it easier to install?

I'm not sure its all you big guy. I was lazy and didnt remove alot. I took off little as possible. And I think thats where I had most trouble. The design is great the way you have two slots for the hard to reach bolts. If I would have taken the black wiring case off that runs over top the engine next to the air tube, I would have had lots of room. All in all, wasnt that bad of an install. I just picked the hottest weekend to start it.

Rick, if you could make an S-shaped, half moon, ratcheting allen wrench to include, that would help.
Seriously though, it's just one of those things that You need a chain of japanese wrists on each arm for. The valley on these motors being 10 feet deep just adds to the excitement.

HAHAHAHA!!!! Aint that the truth!! I thought the same. All in all, it was a fun learning experience.

Started my install this afternoon. The stock one was pretty easy to take out but then the fun began with new one. F#%kin Sears was out of 10&14" 1/4 extensions, they don't make 1/4 allen sockets only 3/8 & the allen sockets are straight not the ball ends. Had to pull out the airhorn twice to fish the damn sockets out of the valley, finally got the lower drivers side bolt in & now trying to figure out how to tighten the passenger side bolt. Can't get a socket in there & can't get enough of a turn with the allen key. To top it off I busted the middle of the grill when I slide down caught the hood latch in the ribs & jumped off of it. Rant over

I figured out the passenger side bolt, bend the 5mm allen wrench in towards itself about a 1/8th of an inch & used a piece of 1/4" black pipe for a cheater bar.

My ribs should be alright maybe a good bruise tomorrow, nothing a few....OK a 12 pack will make it feel better.

Noreaster: Did your tube come with a slotted hole for on the drivers side bottom bolt? That way kinda made it a lil easier.

Noreaster

Yes it has both slots. It was just a bitch with the rectangular casting on the turbo keeping the top out, the passenger side bolt was right below its slot so I couldn't rotate it & the plastic wiring harness cover was preventing it from coming forward.

They are a pain but normally only take about 30-45 minutes to get in. Working on helicopter engines you learn alot of neat tricks to get bolts into tight places. .020" safety wire or any decently strong thin wire will help:
Up by the head of the bolt wrap the wire clockwise (looking at the head of the bolt) around the very top of the treaded area. Wrap 10 or more wraps around and leave yourself 6"+ of wire hanging off. Use the wire to guide the end of the bolt into the hole then use either a scribe, philips, or small allan wrench (small enough to spin the allen hole in the bolt) to hold some pressure on the bolt. With pliers pull on the wire and it will spin it clockwise and right into the hole. Depending on how many wraps you do you can get the bolt almost all the way in then get a turn or 2 to tighten it up.:thumb:

Thanks to feedback like this my new ones will have the two bottom holes slotted vertically. That will allow you to slide the air horn straight down on the 2 bottom bolts.

lly intake is a bitch to get to the drivers side front bottom nut .try putting in a 1/4" longer studs in the two bottom fronts. will make it easier.will be able to install nuts before sliding y bridge down.
