So I was thinking of running some full train horns on my truck. Not the airhorns that run off a 12v little compressor but the kind that need a seperate air tank and seperate air compressor.

I don't know much about them so I figured I'd ask somebody who already bought one and installed it.

What's a good brand, what should I look for when shopping for one..Size tank/Db rating/ How many horns ????

Please post up any pics you got of yours installed.
Thanks

I have installed two sets with the air compressor set up.... Made a bracket to suspend the horns under the truck, near the drive shaft, and stuck the compressor inside the tool box...

The problems I ran into were all related to the size of the horns... Very little extra space in the truck. Whatever brand you pick make sure you have the room...

I did do a little something special with the operation though...The owner wanted to use the stock horn button to operate the horns... SO I put in a few relays and placed a switch on the lower dash to switch between the two sets of horns... Works very well :)

Nathan K5s- they sound great! Just what the real trains run. If you are interested in a set I have a friend with a set for sale-

A 5 or 7 gallon tank is best so that you have the air supply to lay into them- and a compressor that produces a decent CFM.

GOOD LUCK Steven

Rebuilt when he bought them- been on his truck for about a year. Specs- google Nathan K5s and you will find alot. These horns sell for right around $1300 from Hornblasters- you can check them out there as well. He is asking $650 for them. -Steven

You can easily piece it all together with better parts for cheaper than you can buy a kit for- but to each his own. Tank, compressor, 12v solenoid valve, horns, and a little wiring and power switches and you are set- GOOD LUCK Steven

No it's not a PITA to piece everything together as long as you do your research first. Most complete kits are over priced and limit your capabilities.I have the three horn set for my air Horns. I pieced together my system and the grand total was well under $300. Shop around.. If I could find the deals on stuff anyone can. I went with the three piece horn from Kleinn. Viair compressor , tanks, valves solenoids, relays etc,. Seperate tanks (2) and I have an air line off one of the tanks mounted in my bed for tires etc while at the dunes.
