The press release on this is listing some nice numbers for the little diesel. "310 horsepower and 520 lb-ft or torque" Would you consider buying one?

I know a few people that would like them. But I will stick to my 3/4 ton for now. Does anybody know what transmission will be in the 1/2 tons

I already have one of these trucks. There is much wrong with them, and I am working hard to fix all their problems. Do not buy one until I have everything fixed.

Is there a problem with the muffler bearings

Yes. My team of engineers is working closing with General Motors at their request to aleviate the muffler bearing problem. I invented a henway gasket that fixes such problems.

I have to drive my current 03 dually until the 4.5 comes out then I will consider trading/selling my dually and go into a heavy duty 1500 to tow my TT.:thumb:

An in-depth interview with Charlie Freese, GM's Executive Director of Diesel Engineering is here: http://www.dieselpowermag.com/tech/chevy/0810dp_2010_duramax_4500_diesel/index.html
Here's an excerpt from this article:
"We continue to improve the 6.6L Duramax for those customers that require the biggest, most capable truck available. The 6.6L will serve the 2500 and 3500 pickups (Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra), fullsize vans (Chevrolet Express and GMC Savanna), and commercial trucks (Kodiak and Topkick)."

Note that he doesn't say the 4.5L won't ever be available in the HDs, just that the 6.6L WILL continue to be available. IMO, they would be foolish to not (eventually) offer the 300hp 4.5L instead of the detuned 250hp 6.6L in the vans, especially if it is less expensive.

I'm not convinced that this is going to go ahead. When GM doesn't show their vehicle at SEMA (2008) and then announce that they plan to auction their "demo model" before it's released it's not really a positive step. http://jalopnik.com/5113113/gm-to-auction-near+classics-from-corporate-museum

There is also rumours on GM Inside News that the 4.5 has been delayed for 18 months. http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/f60/4-5l-duramax-diesel-delayed-18-months-70869/

Cheers

...Sounds like the boys at GM better re-think their budgets given the bail-outs. Interesting though.

Yeah i think this would be a great idea but i think this will at least be post poned for a while longer, it would definatly be a nice thing to have avaliable though.

I wonder now they more automakers are going with diesel powerplants if the price of diesel is going to shoot through the roof any more than it has.
