So the 2002 8.1 has no back brakes, didnt notice until I took the plow off. It has ALL brand new lines. I have tried to bleed them for over an hour and am not even getting any air on either side. HELP

did you try cycling the ABS. Might be air in there. Just a thought.

How did you determine there are no back brakes?

In snow, foot to the floor on the brakes, the back wheels keep spinning... you have to put it in neutral then park..
At my buddys shop now screwing with it, the "ABS pump thing" under the drivers seat has no fluid coming out to the back lines at the pump. He is think maybe when some re-did all the lines the put some in the wrong spot, if that makes sense?
I have no brake idiot light on the dash, but I do get a light when I unplug the pump, but still no fluid comes out.
I know NOTHING about ABS so I am way lost here with what that pump does

Basically it's Anti Lock Brakes. But I'm sure you figured that out. When you apply your brakes and one tries to lock up but the others are still turning, it engages. Stops the flow or limits it so all the brakes are working the same. Basically, it's the ABS doing the pumping for you instead of you pumping the brakes. If you ever slam on the brakes and you feel a big vibration in the brake and it pushes back. that is the ABS.

To cycle it, as what you would after a brake flush. It engages the ABS so the old fluid is pushed out and new fluid is entered. But sometimes, like when you bleed the brakes, you can get air in the ABS. There are 2 ways you can cycle the ABS.

1. The proper way, get a tech 2 and go through the that to cycle it.

2. The not so proper way, but still works good. Slam on the brakes so you force the engagement of the ABS. In this case you WANT the pedal to vibrate. It accomplishes the same thing as #1.

If I'm wrong on any of this I'm sure I'll get flamed for it. But I hope this helps.:thumb:

Tried locking them up about a dozen times, no luck. Only have front brakes and they arnt locking up like ABS should, they lock up and slid.
How much money would the dealer cost to do this? -:t

I'm not sure how much they would charge.

I have been looking at that ABS scanner from Actron, but not sure if it would cycle the ABS like the Tech 2 would. That is one thing holding me back from getting one. That and about $300 to $400 that I don't have.

Another thought, could the calipers be seized up? Or maybe the pads are not lubed up on the sliders enough that they might be seizing? I don't know if you had already checked those things yet. I know you said you bled them. I have on occasion, had a problem with something, went back and re-did it, and it worked fine. Even if all I did was the same thing that I had done before. Sometimes things are funny like that. Might be worth a shot. Pull the calipers off and check to make sure they are not seized up. Clean up the sliders REAL good. and lube them up. Put it all back together. and check it again. I hate re-doing my work, but sometimes that's what it takes.

Im not getting fluid even out of the ABS "box" thing under the cab when we disconect the lines there. no fluild in the back lines at all since the previous owner did the new lines

You can get fluid to the ABS but out of it. Sounds like it needs to be cycled to get the air out. If that don't work then might be time to get a new ABS module.

Did your abs and brake light come on when you unplugged it or just the brake light?

ON rockauto they want about $800 for one, so I hope not -:t

did you try to bleed with key on?
Key on, key off, truck running, everything

Did your abs and brake light come on when you unplugged it or just the brake light?

Both lights came on...

My ABS module got to where it would run with the key off and out of the ignition, it sounded like my lift pump was running, all I did to "fix" the problem was pull the big ABS fuse under the hood and just drive w/out ABS, brake lights are always on but it's been that way for almost a year and truck still stops fine, stops a trailer fine, etc., don't think this is exactly along the same lines as your issue but hey that's my ABS experience

Drove it today in the snow/ice with the plow, and the ABS pump was making a noise when I tried to stop in the slush, going to try to bleed again when the inch of ice melts off the damn thing :)
