What's easier to get to the top of the fuel tank?

Drop the tank or pull the bed?

After just going through the hassle of dropping my tank (twice) in the last couple of days. I would have to say taking off the bed (if you have the manpower to lift it) would probably be easier. Good luck. Let us know what you decide to do. :thumb:

probably easiest to jack up the bed if you have an easy way to do it. A chain hoist on an over head beam or a frame would be great. Pulling and messing with the tank is dirty and really better with 2 guys, use of a tranny hoist or floor jack helps a great deal if you are alone.

If I remember right my old 95 was about 350-400lbs so less then that on the newer one you have,

In northern states, you run a risk of snapping rusted bolts. I have access to a lift so I run the tank low and drop it.

just cut a hole in the bed over the tank, then weld it back in when you're done and then put in a new bedliner):h, that is what i decided i would do if I ever had to drop a tank in my 93 again, I'd say depends on how many buddies are willing to help

Id drop the tank in a heartbeat- but then again i have never removed a bed. All the lift pumps i have done i have just had the tanks ran low and drop it out- and i do it off my back, no fancy lifts here;) GOOD LUCK Steven

I also have a Tahoe and I have dropped the tank on it to change the fuel pump... It was impossible to do on the ground in the driveway but on the lift with a transmission jack it was pretty easy...

I have the axle out right now 'cause the gov-lock diff exploded and I'm changing it out, and while it is out I changed the leaf springs from 2WD to 4WD springs and had to move the tank to do the driver side spring. It was pretty easy with the Tahoe on jack stands and the axle out and driveshaft disconnected... Just two bolts for the straps and supported the tank with the floor jack and pushed it toward the center enough to get the bolt out...:thumb:

Four guys can hande one, big thing is watch the plastic fenders, we caught one on the bumper when we were putting it back on, (some dufus welded a piece of sheet steel to the frame that we had to cut out when we installed the flib over goose neck hitch) and we snapped a chunk out of the fender, they are very brittle. Biggest hassle with dropping the tank is screwing with the filler tube. PITA

YES. The filler tube sucks. It catches on everything and doesn't flex or bend easily. Defiantely a PITA! -:t

What you doing dave? I have pulled my bed and dropped my tank, personally I think dropping the tank is easier. 2 bolts, and 2 straps, 1 connector, feed and. return line

I have done it both ways and install an AirDog every week or two and a Titan tank every month or two. I pull the bed - 8 18mm bolts, 3 7mm screws, and 2 plugs and it is ready to lift. I use the lift to lift it overhead, do the work to the top of the tank, then lower it back in place and bolt it down. Without a lift I would definitely pull the bed - on a short bed 2 guys can lift it, 3-4 makes it a whole lot easier, it's not the weight just the awkwardness of it.
