EGT Probe

where is the best place to put a EGT probe on an 05 GMC 2500. I know before the turbo but any pros and cons of placement

I think most people put it in the passenger side manifold near the back.

That is the easiest place to access. Pull the wheel well, start the engine, and drill your hole back by the rear flange going upward. The engine running will blow the chips out.

I think it takes an R drill, but I'll have to check tomorrow. Then tap the hole with an 1/8" NPT tap. Be sure not to go too deep. These are tapered taps and fittings and going too deep will not allow them to fit correctly.

I've started putting them in the driver's side manifold. The reason being is because I have heard of a few guys who ended up having cracked manifolds where they tap them for the probe. If that happens to the passenger's side, the only replacement option would be a stock manifold, but the BD manifold will replace the driver's side and comes with a pre-tapped bung for a probe that would prevent it from cracking again.
