This test can be used to aid in troubleshooting a low fuel rail pressure condition when other things such as clogged fuel filter has already been checked.
This will check to see if your Fuel Pressure Regulator Valve is allowing fuel to be sent back to the tank rather than holding the pressure in the rail.
Find your fuel rail on the driver side of the block.
About an inch from the end (by the fire wall) there is a nipple sticking out with a peice of rubber hose in the shape of a U.
Pop the line off the fuel rail side and stick a bolt or something in the end of the U and plug it.
Place a 3' or so section of fuel line onto the nipple on the rail.
Stick the free end in a liter bottle or whatever you choose and stuff it over on your driver side fender and secure it so it doesn't flop around and spill fuel if it does get any in it.
I believe the line is 5/16".
Start up the truck and ensure there are no leaks.
Now you can go test it. Ideally, you'll want to try and get it to set a low pressure code or if you can monitor rail pressure, get it to where it can't hold commanded.
Check your bottle. If there is no fuel in the bottle, then the FPRV is not your problem.
