View Full Version : Turbo squeal?

Occasionally when I accelerate hard I will hear a squealing noise from outside the truck. At first I thought that it was the rear tires, but today it seemed like it might be coming from the turbo. It does not do it all the time, but when it does, it is always under hard acceleration.

Is my stock turbo on the way out?

My guess would be a boost leak. The hose on the DS from the turbo to the tube going to the CAC is notorious for splitting over time. Hope it's that simple for you.;)

Not a belt squeal?

Watch your boost gauge and see if it is consistent with a certain psi.

Hard accel and then goes away while you still have your foot in it is an exhaust leak. Blocker Plate?

It is not consistent with a boost level, and does not do it all the time. I thought about it being the serpentine belt, but it is not that kind of noise; good suggestion, though. I'll check the hose at the CAC as well as the blocker plate.

Thanks guys.

How many miles Bud? I know a friend of mine is on his 3rd water pump on his LLY and he's under 100K miles...

Hard to diagnose without hearing it though...

72k on the odometer, and I have not noticed any weeping that would lead me to a leak in the water pump.

I was able to tighten the blocker plate bolts just a hair (they are a real dog to get to). When I did that I noticed a bit of oil around the blocker plate itself, so there may have been a slight leak.
