Who here is making their own bio? What processor do you use? Any issues?

I have not completely started my WVO set-up still trying to get a consistent source for WVO. As it stands now, just in to experimental phase with filtering, water seperation and mixing.

I'm building my bio processor right now... (just waiting for a few parts). Are you going to process the WVO into bio or run straight WVO?

I would try my hand at this only I am afraid I would be fighting a lot of people trying to buy the used french fry oil :( Around here they keep the used stuff under lock and key and a company usually hauls it off for them..

Right, but if they are paying that company to haul it off... so long as you go in and present a plan for them from a business standpoint I've not met much resistance to them letting me take it for free. You just have to remember that they are running a business and they need a reliable way to get rid of their waste oil. If you can be that way and take it for free... you shouldn't have a problem.

In fact, no one that I have approached has turned me down. I didn't get one guys oil because it turns out he uses lard instead of vegtable oil, but he was willing to let me have it.

A buddy of mine got turned down because they used to give it to another guy who spilled it in their place and didn't clean it up... then one of their employees slipped and fell and sued them. Now they won't give it away anymore...

I plan on going the WVO route due to the kids and all....much safer. Also with the WVO my seals will last longer than using bio. I also don't want to risk blowing anything up just yet. Quite frankly the Methanol and Lye are not too safe to deal with in their raw forms (and I don't want my neighbors thinking I have a meth lab in my backyard). Keep me posted on your processor. I have some friends making both bio and WVO for their Fords with good luck so far. They did however go through quite the "learning process" until they achieved the right process and final result.

I built a processor at work two years ago with help from a friend who is really good with the science part. I welded a cone to the bottom of a 55 gallon drum, welded in bungs for water heater heating elements, wired in a timer, thermostat and pump. System works good, except for some of the clear hoses that we used seems to seep. It is still a lot of work and finding lye has gotten to be a challenge. When I have time, I make a few batches of bio from the used cooking oil that we use where I work. We run it in our diesel lawn mowers with good success.

I have also had some success blending wvo with diesel. The bad part is if you get caught in some cold weather with a blend in your tank, you are screwed. I had it happen several years ago with my cummins powered suburban and I finally had to completely remove the fuel filter to keep it running. I have also been stuck on the side of the road changing fuel filters. I would like to try some of the filtering bags.

Great thing about Phx...no snow and with the 110 degree summer heat the WVO may thin itself J/K

Everybody I have approached about giving me WVO has been very eager to have it picked up for free. You need to stick to the Mom and Pop places and put them on a real schedule. So they know exactly when you are coming and can count on you. I have been taking mine to a friend for processing but I'm going to my first lesson tomorrow. Should be no more than $1/gallon!!! When buying methanol just make sure you explain your use for it so as not to draw unneeded attention.

i seen a episode of trucks on the speed chanel a while back and they had a kit that was a whole station to mix/filter/heat/convert the oil to bio or whatever it comes out as and it comes with a chart and measuring cups so that your exact on your ammounts and you dont come to dinner with the fam. and not have any eyebrows. it was from freedomfuelsamerica.com when it was on the show the guy said it was 3,000 $ or somethin like that which aint too bad with these prices at the pump it should be paid for quick.

It's easy to get obviously...and not illegal...but if you are using it in an enclosed area where there are drums and barrels and test tubes people might question. That's all. Judging by your username you may be burnin' meth and tires quite a bit?

Methanol is easy to get yes...but very , very flammable in a confined space. I used to run it in my sand car a few years back and was very cautious. My neighbors were intrigued whenever I rolled out a 55 gallon drum to the garage. I'm sure the sound of the car starting up re-assured them that I was not making anything other than H.P.):h

Not sure if he is still making it, but John at Dynadroit was offering a very nice looking system a year or more ago. I recall he was getting very good results using his own system as well.
