I had mine "fixed" well lubed, about 24,000 miles ago... It has been quite ever since but his looks like a inexpensive thing to try if it ever comes back...

Nice shaft. Hopefully it will be an easy project for you when you get back in town. Although I don't have the "clunk" I do have the squeal when turning slowly left....WTF???? I am anxious to see the write-up. Good luck.

Power steering pump squeal or the funny noise from the column itself? I put a tiny amount of silicone spray where the shaft goes through the plastic bearing at the firewall and it helped with the wife's Suburban.

....Interesting I may just try that today. The squeal is not from the power steering pump. This noise seems to be familiar with most dmax's out there, usually when only turning left for some strange reason, and it seems to almost send a slight vibration up to the steering wheel. I will try the silicone spray trick and see if it eliminates the annoying/intermittent sound. Thanks for the tip.
On a different note:
Still no luck with obtaining ANY WVO ! I guess the restaurants are starting to catch on....I hear more and more of the owners are selling it now.

I have yet to install it and unfortunately I am leaving for a week starting tomorrow. I was planning on getting the OEM shaft out and taking pictures of them together and then putting the new one in and giving a full report. Probably next weekend because after vacation I am swamped with work after a week off.

:)WOW!!! My first post on this was in july...and I just put this shaft in! It's amazing what kind of time a new baby...a 4 year old...and work can take up. Anyway back on topic. I did not get a chance to take pictures of the 2 shafts side by side but it did fix the clunk. My shaft has been clunking all winter and most of summer (since july) and it appears to have gone away with this shaft. Only a spin around the neighborhood and hit a few spots where I KNEW the old shaft clunked. Replacement is pretty self explanatory. Remove the old install the new...don't turn the steering wheel! I will report later after I drive it a few more times.:thumb:

This thing is great so far. Truck feels much more solid and the rattle is completely gone. I used to get a serious rattle when making u-turns and I haven't heard a peep from the column since installation. I'm impressed!
