Hey i have been wondering for a bit now just because of curiosity about throwing an air snorkel from an H1 or H2 on my truck. now i know that the factory air intake wont suck water even if i hit big puddles and throw water all over my engine bay(id hope anyway). but i have opened my air box and this is what i am thinking.
with what room there is try and do this, take the aftermarket stage 2 intake tube from AFE and make a custom box to mount the filter that is sealed and run another tube from one side of the box back towards the fire wall and at a 90 degree angle direct it up through the hood. mount one of the extended(about 4 inches or so) H1 high water intakes and replace the round part with one of the ARB snorkels. where the hood drops down to the 90 degree bend have a rubber seal of some sort that will make the connection using pressure to seal against the bottom side of the hood using a bracket to give support. just kinda what i am thinking, i figure this would give a sort of ram air and also a cooler air charge plus the added benefit that if you do have to cross some kind of water you wont get stuck paddeling.
on edit: that pic is kind of small can an admin try and make this bigger for me so yall can atleast see what i am trying to do here.

took me about 3 times to see what you were talking about on your pic):h. id think it would be a good idea, mainly if you color match to the truck. i thought about that too, but dropped it cuz i didnt want to drill though the hood

X2 on the hood drilling thing too. I was too nervous to go that route myself so I opted for the under bumper "vac" snorkel myself.):h I would be interested in seeing what you end up doing however.

i think i am going to go with the through the hood cause i dont like getting drowned and i am sure my truck wont either i was thinking of leaving it an ABS plastic black because it isnt going to be that tall maybe about 3 or so inches off the hood and that way it wont be so noticable.

unless you plan on crossing rivers or some serious off roading then i wouldnt worry about it. as long as you dont go blasting into water at 60mph, its not going to splash enough up to the air filter to cause problems. if you are still worried about it do a sealed airbox like the volant or somthin so nothing can splash up onto the filter. i just cant imagine cutting a hole in the hood of you daily driver just to keep water from splashing on the air filter. no offense. it would be cool as hell if it was a serious off roader or somthin....

Go for it...after all it's your truck. Just be sure to get some pics if you decide to cut through your hood.

its either that i am going to cut the hole or go with a side mount snorkle kit. i have not decided yet but its simply for the fact of "better to have and not need than to need and not have". thats what i always say anyway, just one of those what if things you know plus blasting through water at 60 mph is kind of fun when you throw it everywhere lol.<--as long as you dont hit anything.;)

I dont know man, its your truck so do what makes YOU happy. Not others. I think it would be sweet if you did a snorkle type ram air pipe with a ram air hood scoop over it painted to match. Nobody has a ram air scoop on the passenger side of the hood. The Kodiaks have a sweet side vent scoop on the passenger side that they do make billet grill pieces for. Maybe take a look at that?

That's a great idea...the side intake set-up would look cool on a dually IMO. Unique for sure and not too "off-road".

hey james you ever check out how the military uses their snorkels on the diesel h1's? kinda like the flexi hose from the top of the pillar to the side of the air box.
