Here is how to reset/activate Driver Information Center (DIC) features for trucks without steering wheel controls.
≡ How to Reset the ENGINE OIL LIFE SYSTEM ≡
The GM Oil Life System is a computer based software algorithm that
determines when to change oil based on engine operating conditions.
There is no actual oil condition sensor. Rather, the computer continuously
monitors engine-operating conditions to determine when to change oil.
1. Turn the ignition key to RUN without starting the engine.
2. Fully press and release the accelerator pedal three times within five seconds.
If the OIL LIFE RESET message flashes for ten seconds, the system is resetting.
3. Turn the key to LOCK.
The ENGINE OIL LIFE SYSTEM is now set to 100%.
≡ How to Reset the FUEL FILTER LIFE SYSTEM ≡
Note: Not all Duramax trucks come with this system. All 2006
to present models has this system. Some 2005 and earlier trucks
had them updated by a reflash from the dealer. Update was
released around August of 2005.
1. Turn the ignition key to RUN without starting the engine.
2. Wait five seconds.
3. Completely press the brake and the accelerator pedals simultaneously and hold for ten seconds.
4. Release pedals and confirm message displayed in the DIC. FUEL FILTER RESET
5. Turn the ignition key off
The FUEL FILTER LIFE SYSTEM is now set to 100%.
≡ How to turn On/Off the ELEVATED IDLE ≡
The engine has a cold temperature high idle. It elevates
the engines idle speed from 680 to 1,200 rpms when the
outside temperatures are below 32°f (0°c) and the engine
temperature is below 150°f (65°c). This feature enhances
heater performance by raising the engine coolant temperature
faster.
To turn ON system:
1. Turn the ignition to RUN without starting the engine.
2. Press the accelerator pedal to the floor and hold while quickly pressing the brake pedal three times in less than eight seconds.
3. Release the accelerator pedal and note message in the DIC display.
4. Either start the engine or turn the ignition key off.
To turn OFF system, repeat steps 1 to 4.
After the engine is started, it will slowly rise up to the high idle speed of 1,200 rpms after a few seconds up to approximately two minutes. Do not use the throttle, brake, or clutch (manual trans.) for this interrupts the high idle feature. It will also interrupt if vehicle speed is detected. The truck can be driven at any time, but by using pedals it stops the idle warm-up.
The engine speed will return to normal once the following conditions are met:
Engine coolant temperature reaches 150°f (65°c).
Air intake temperature reaches 32°f (0°c).
