an Oil bypass system is a remotely mounted filter that filters to very fine micron sizes such as 1 micron. There are 2 types of sytems for your Dmax, a single and a duel system. Your Factory oil filter is called a full flow filter. With a single system your factory full flow filter will retain it s factory location. The duel system will remove the full flow filter and replace it with a filter head and move the aftermarket full flow filter next to the the bypass filter mounted on the frame rail. Each time your oil circulates your bypass system will filter 10% of the oil down to say 1 micron over time all of the oil gets filtered of course.
Your factory full flow filter is around 35-40 microns. The result of a bypass filter is longer drain intervals and much cleaner oil resulting in longer engine life.
I have a couple of customers running bypass systems and only draining every 40K. They hotshot cars around the 4 corners and texas. I can post pics if you guys would like

Oil wears out due to dirt and insolubles. A bypass filter keeps the dirt and insolubles in check, thus extending the life of oil and it could possibly extend the life of your engine due to filtering out the 10-15 micron particles that cause wear.
