View Full Version : Upper RPM Power seems flat

As with anything, add more power and you get used to it and with the price of fuel, you get used to babying the throttle to save fuel until you feel the need to haul ass!

My question, is that my truck seems a little flat in the upper rpm ranges of the engine 2600-3200 rpms. With the PPE Hot +2 et set on level 8, power is very good until the rpms get up. Boost is between 25 and 32, but 4th gear runs are flat until truck shifts into 5th gear and then it takes off like a rocket. I don't think fuel flow is an issue, fuel filters are fresh, lift pump is putting out adequate fuel and engine seems to be getting adequate fuel, as egts will soar to 1600 plus at wot run. It seems like acceleration would be much better if transmission would shifter sooner into 5th gear.

Any thoughts?

Possibly a lack of converter lockup.

You could be partially right. Last time I ran it hard, tranny was cold and converter probably didn't lock. I am going to also change my fuel filter again, just changed my frame mounted filter because it was plugged (been running some soy oil) I should probably make a run with the scan tool plugged in and watch the numbers, just kind of hard to do without seriously exceeding the speed limit.):h

If you are still stacking the PPE with the Edge you are most likely draining rail pressure too.

I am not stacked anymore, I have upgraded to a PPE Hot +2 Et. I replaced my frame mounted filter again and it is running good. Running some waste vegtable oil can be unpredictable on how long the filters last.
