Decided to take a quick cruise out to Gordons Well this afternoon to take some pictures of the clean truck. Haven't taken any pics since I got the light bar and graphics put on and took the running boards off last night. Let me know what you think of the new look.

There are a few more pics in the album. Only bad part was the temp. It was somewhere around 100 so cruisin around in the fairly unridden sand brought tranny temps up to 240 before I left. Definitely need to do the tranny cooler before the desert season starts!

No one out there except the BP. Was hoping for a few less tracks, but definitely been some people out there night riding. Not sure how much BP runs into the dunes.

The sand is definitely a little more work with these tires than the last set, but that's ok, just need to get my tranny cooler upgraded to keep the temps down.

I like the second picture. The running boards removed looks good too. Thats what made me get a stage 5 trans, i was over climbin Oldsmobile hill and my tranny blew up from the heat.

I haven't attempted Olds yet, call me chicken I guess. I am running the factory 7.3 tranny cooler right now which is a tiny POS that belongs on a Ford Ranger....In fact, I think my 2001 Ranger had a bigger tranny cooler than my PSD. I am planning a Derale aftermarket cooler with fan to put somewhere under the chassis.

I hope that you live close to be going up there for the day. I remember in my younger years taking the bikes out there in mid June.....what was I thinking....and was camping in a tent non the less-:t-:t. I too like the third pic as well. Sugar sand is tougher to navigate in then most people realize. I was able to get my 4x4 Tacoma up highway hill and again up competition hill at Glamis. Airing down the m/t's to 10 lbs. helps tremendously.

Yes, but I want more than that. I'd like to be able to have the fan so that I can control the temp a little better at the track. I have noticed a couple tenths difference in 1/4 mile times in most of my second passes. The first pass the tranny is cooler.....when it warms up, the truck slows down a little. I'd like to be able to manually turn the fan on and off to keep temps consistent for running brackets.

I'm about 20-25 minutes from there in Yuma. Aside from it being sugar sand, it hasn't been ridden much in the last few months. The sand is always softer at the beginning of the season.

...Yeah Halloween weekend is normally our first trip of the season and although people get there mid October, the sand takes quite a bit of abuse before it gets packed. Just ask all my buddies I have had to pull out of the sand with my 4X4. I am looking forward to this season, maybe the crowds will be smaller given gas prices ??

Who knows. I imagine that the off weekends will probably be a little slower, but I wouldn't expect the holidays to be any slower.

I prefer the hard pack flat lands of Ocotillo Wells, but I do dune from time to time. I've got an '86 TRX250R that is down right now. Was runnin a little lean and seized it on the last ride of last season. It popped loose right away so hopefully I got lucky. Could also be a hole in the piston, but I haven't popped the cylinder off yet. Probably do that next weekend and ship it out for machining if it needs it then put it all back together and up my jet a couple sizes.

That sucks, although I kinda miss the simplicity of the 2 strokers. It's a whole different world for me to get used to going from a Banshee to the YFZ450 I currently dune. Most of the time I can figure out the YFZ, but if I have to go in too deep....I'll be looking for a mechanic before I get into trouble. I miss working on the Banshee (not really, cause it was usually after driving four hours to Glamis) because it was simple.

AHHH yes...the smell of castor synthetic and VP110...those were the good ol' days.:thumb:
