I have super high EGTs when gettin on it, my truck is super laggy, EGTs want to sit at 400deg at idle in park, little bit of black soot on compress inducer fins. What else could it be? Its been like this for a few weeks and thought it was because of my cracked up-pipe, since i have replaced them both and put some nice headers on the issue is still there. I have checked all the charge pipes, boots, no leaks, turbo has no play and spins freely?? When i get on it it smokes like a freight train.
What do you guys think? Ive all ready picked out a turbo, think im doin the 66 74 silver bullet. I got a smokin price on one and it will bolt up to my T3 pedistal.
Any suggestions on what the problem may be besides a bad turbo would be great. Oh, suggestions on a turbo would be good too.....NO TWINS!):h

what about a Fleece Turbo? That 70mm one is sick, although its actually a true 68mm. Brayden said hes got a new true 71mm turbo out.. Do u have a busted IC boot?

Na, the boots are good? IDK what it is. My truck is a lb7, i dont have the VVT turbo.

dang.. i dunno about lb7s.. i know my lbz idles at 375 egt's.. and the only time i got crazy amounts of smoke is when i popped an IC boot.. how high are the EGT'S at liks 70mph?

deffinetly sounds like turbo to me. Alot of smoke out the exhaust would be a good sign also. Are you having this?
Use the industrial Injection Newly

At 70mph im at 750deg or so on flat ground, yea, its smokin more than usual but i figured thats because im only seeing 40 lbs of boost versus my normal 45-47psi in OD. The lag is whats horrible, it was never this bad and it came over nite.
I have the T3 pedistal so any other turbos you guys think are good let me know, ill prob be orderin one in the next day or two.

I'd be down with the 66/74.

Fleece turbos are out of the question, i talked to a few guys about converting my lb7 into something that could take a fleece turbo but it would take way to much tuning. I would have to replace the ecm, tcm, glowplug controller and a few more, it would be difficult altho it could be done. Id be better off with a lly or lbz platform to start with.
Im leanin towards the 66 74 silverbullet.
What is the exducer wheel size on the tubine side of a fleece 68mm or a 71mm cheetah? I heard they are small and make alot of drive pressure.

Any shaft play, tightness, or any signs of the impeller rubbing the housing? Do you have a wastegate?

Shaft play is normal side to side play, bout a 1/8th inch or less, spins free and easy and i didnt see any signs of it rubbin the housing. Yes, i have a wastegate and it seems to be working good. IDK? i checked all the boots again for leaks and i cant see anything. There was a lil soot on the impeller fins which is leading a few guys to believe i have a bad seel. Im not building the same boost as i was and its a doggy turd to lite it up.
My truck has been like this for the past few weeks but i thought it was because of my cracked up-pipe. IDK what else it could be? A few guys have told be the turbo seels could be bad abd thats causin the wheel to spin slower even tho it feels tight and spins ok by hand??????
I need some more input from you guys before i go spending another 2k on a turbo! (i probably will anyways tho) LOL

Fleece has a Cheetah for the Lb7 now. It comes in a 68mm or a 71.5mm.

Yes, i have looked at these. That is the inducer size of the compressor wheel, what is the wheel size of the exducer on turbine wheel?? This is where drive pressure comes in to play with the dmax...

Newly call me when you get a chance. I have something that will work great for you, and require no extra mods to get this to fit with your existing bd kit.

Would you mind explaining to us why the fleece charger is the only brand you would buy at this point?

Sorry forgot to mention I am only intrested in knowing why you like the LB7 cheeter turbos, not intrested in the vvt's reasoning. Thanks

Honestly, because I dont know enough about turbos to make a decision elsewise.. I have talked to Brayden about changing the Turbo on my LBZ which is somethin planned for this winter. Ive attempted to contact Turbonetics, and garret to speak with one of their reps , to help me choose the right turbo for my application, and they are always too busy. Brayden answers his phone everytime Ive called..
Again, THAT is why I said "I Dont know much about the rest" ..
Newly, I hope you find out whats wrong with your turbo, and get it fixed quick bud..

it's pretty simple for KC........ Customer service. Without customer service there is no customer. This businnes is to competive to not return calls and take time with customers.
Newly keep us posted on the direction you. I'm an industrial injection fan myself. Does ATS have anything you have found that will bot to the T3?
Josh2002cc

ATS has the Aurora 5000 however you have to buy the whole kit, they will not sell you just a turbo...unless you know someone. The A5K is a T3 however how much lower does the bd pedistal sit compared to the ATS pedistal?

Newly just to be safe you did check the IC for leaks around the tanks right? I don't recall which IC your running. If there no shaft play and the compressors not rubbing I would triple check everything to make sure before you drop the cheese for a new /used turbo.

Yea, i have checked but im going to pressurize everything up again to make sure. Im runnin the stock IC. Either way im prob gonna just get a bigger turbo anyway. Im starting to hear sum high high pitched squeelz from the engine erea....sounds like the turbo. ??

High pitched squeal could be a boost or exhaust leak also.

I advised him to check his IC boots and IC itself very carefully for leaks. He did mention that the IC had a leak and he used JB weld. I hope he listens as I have been through 5 turbos now because I "thought" I did not have a boost leak...well I was wrong and my IC had a nasty leak.
Take your time and call me back, I left the compressor/exhaust sizes on your voicemail.

Hey so how much boost were you seeing with that turbo? And what kind of EGT's did you see? I am at the point that I need to get more air into the cylinder.
Also, where did you get your Turbo Pedestal and all the install kit?
